The AIX Studios were designed by Peter Grueneisen of nonzero \ architecture,
formerly a partner in s t u d i o bau:ton and built in 2006 at 2050 Granville Ave, Los
Angeles, 20025. The design focused on creating a very large, multipurpose control
room configured to handle a variety of audio/video tasks. These include mixing for
2-channel stereo, 5.1/7.1 channel surround sound and complete film mixing into our
JBL/Crown THX-certified system. There is a retractable ceiling-mounted 146” Stewart
Filmscreen that can be lowered to show HD video from a Runco VX2c HD projector
(a 65” Panasonic 3D plasma screen can also be brought into the space).
The ITU 5.1 room was tuned by Bob Hodas and features a ProTools HD 5 System
running on an 8-core Mac Pro. The centerpiece of the room is a 128-input Euphonix
System 5 with all of the core and software updates. The console works both as a
completely digital mixing environment or can be used to control the ProTools rig.
We feature 36 channels of state-of-the-art Benchmark Audio preamplification into
the latest Crystal Semionductor analog to digital and digial to analog conversion.
Monitoring is handled by Bryston and Crown amps into B&W 800 series speakers or
the THXJBL film system.
The AIX Studios can be configured for recording, mixing, video shoots, rehearsals or
film mixing/sound design. There is also a large isolation booth that can be used for
voice overs, drums, vocals, ADR, Foley and even as a control room for the larger
